About the circle

Honouring the Wisdom of Older Women

In many cultures around the world, older women are deeply respected and valued for their wisdom, life experience, emotional strength, and role within family and community life. Rather than being overlooked, they are often seen as guides, storytellers, caregivers, and keepers of tradition.

In Japan, ageing is traditionally associated with honour and dignity. Older women are often admired for their resilience, calm presence, and contribution to family life across generations. Concepts such as respect for elders are woven into everyday culture, and many older women remain active, socially connected, and involved in community life well into later years.

Across parts of Italy and Greece, grandmothers and older women are frequently at the centre of family gatherings and decision-making. Their knowledge, traditions, cooking, storytelling, and emotional wisdom are treasured and passed down through generations.

In many Indigenous cultures around the world, Elders — including older women — hold important cultural and spiritual roles. They are often seen as anchors within community life, carrying knowledge, connection, and guidance that younger generations learn from and respect.

At United Front Therapy, we recognise the value and strength that comes with lived experience. Ageing is not something to hide from — it can also be a time of deeper self-understanding, confidence, reflection, connection, and growth. Older women carry stories of resilience, adaptation, love, grief, survival, and wisdom that deserve to be seen, heard, and honoured.

Every stage of life brings challenges and opportunities. We believe emotional wellbeing, healing, connection, and personal growth remain important at every age.

Is this circle for you?

This space is for women approaching or living in retirement who are finding that this stage of life feels different to what they expected — or simply harder to navigate on their own. You don’t need to be in crisis, and you don’t need to have the “right words.” If there’s simply a quiet sense of “something has shifted” or “I don’t quite know where I fit anymore,” this space may be for you. You’re welcome to come exactly as you are.

You might find this group supportive if you’re experiencing:

  • A shift in identity or purpose after retirement or reduced work
  • Changes in relationships — with partners, children, or family
  • Feelings of loneliness, disconnection, or being less seen
  • Grief and loss — whether recent or carried over time
  • A growing awareness of ageing, time passing, or mortality
  • Financial or life uncertainty that feels difficult to talk about
  • A sense that life hasn’t unfolded in the way you imagined

What makes this circle different?

This group is shaped not only by my work as a therapist, but by my own lived experience as a woman in this stage of life. I’m not standing outside of it looking in — I am walking it too. I understand, both professionally and personally, the quieter realities many women carry: the shifts in identity, the changing roles, the unspoken griefs, the questions about what comes next. In my work, I sit with many women navigating these same experiences — often feeling alone in things that are, in fact, deeply shared. This is not a large, impersonal group. It is a small, thoughtful gathering.

Connect and be heard

This space is about creating a genuine, grounded environment where you don’t have to explain or justify your experience. The things that are often left unsaid can be spoken, with deep respect for the complexity of this stage of life. Here, connection itself becomes part of the healing. If this speaks to you, you’re warmly invited to register your interest or reach out for a brief, no-pressure chat.
